We read the Letter to the Editor entitled “Inaccurate sonographic diagnosis of hepatic CE can be dangerous – Remarks on “Echinococcosis: a Challenge for Liver Sonography” by W. Kratzer et al Ultraschall in Med. 24 February 2022.” relating to our recently published CME Article [1].

The educational article we published on the diagnostic challenge of alveolar echinococcosis (AE, Echinococcus multilocularis) and cystic echinococcosis (CE, Echinococcus granulosus), as well as the Letter to the Editor show the challenge and the scientific discourse of sonographic imaging diagnostics. As described in our article, transmission of the pathogens Echinococcus granulosus and Echinococcus multilocularis is fecal-oral.
