Maryam AlKhatry et al. Improvements in hepatic steatosis, obesity, and insulin resistance in adults with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease after the primary obesity surgery endoluminal 2.0 procedure

Primary obesity surgery endoluminal 2.0 (POSE 2.0) is an endoscopic procedure in which full-thickness plications are applied to reduce gastric lumen size. Adults with obesity and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease underwent POSE 2.0 with lifestyle modification (n = 20) or lifestyle modification alone (n = 22). At 12 months, POSE 2.0 significantly improved controlled attenuation parameter, and resulted in resolution of steatosis and increased percentage total body weight loss compared with lifestyle modification alone. Nonetheless, further studies are needed to elucidate the role of POSE 2.0 in subsets of patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, and the efficacy and safety of the procedure in individuals with advanced fibrosis.
