Jeska A. Fritzsche et al. Endoscopic ultrasound-guided choledochoduodenostomy using single-step lumen-apposing metal stents for primary drainage of malignant distal biliary obstruction (SCORPION-p): a prospective pilot study

Endoscopic ultrasound-guided choledochoduodenostomy (EUS-CDS) using single-step lumen-apposing metal stents (LAMSs) was investigated as the primary drainage strategy in 22 consecutive patients with a distal biliary malignant obstruction without gastric outlet obstruction. In this prospective, single-center, pilot study, technical and clinical success rates of EUS-CDS were high (91 % and 86 %, respectively), but the stent dysfunction rate (55 %) was significant within 6 months’ follow-up, limiting the application of EUS-CDS with LAMS as an alternative to endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography.
