Abstract

Plasma levels of immunoreactive human growth hormone (HGH) and of Cortisol were measured in normal subjects after intravenous injection of 600 ng, 50 µg and 1.0 mg of β1-24 ACTH. All doses elicited normal Cortisol responses. There was no increment in plasma HGH following injection of the lowest two doses; variable HGH responses were observed after injection of 1.0 mg. These data do not support the hypothesis that corticotrophin could mediate HGH release in stress situations.
