Abstract

The alkaloidal fraction and the lactonic fraction of Senecio cineraria D. C. was investigated and as a result four alkaloids were isolated and identified as senecionine, seneciphylline, jacobine and otosenine. The tertiary alkaloidal content and the N–oxide content were determined.

From the lactonic fraction, an incompletely characterized liquid substance was isolated.
