Summary

A transverse section of the rhizome is characterised by the presence of a few layers of cork interior to which lie thin walled cortical parenchyma, endodermis and pericycle are both indistinguishable. Stele is a broad central zone which forms the main body of the rhizome, and consists of partially lignified cells containing many starch grains. Throughout this region are scattered numerous closed, collateral, fibrovascular bundles. Epidermis of the rhizome is generally detached and broken and is seldom seen in a T. S.
