Deprotonation of 5-methyl-2-(trialkylsilyl)thiophenetricarbonylchromium(0) complexes (5, R3 = Me3, Et3, i-PrMe2) with tert-butyllithium resulted in intermolecular silyl transfer reactions which generated, inter alia, 2-methyl-3-(trialkylsilyl) thiophenetricarbonylchromium(0) (7) and 2-methyl-3,5-bis(trialkylsilyl)thiophenetricarbonylchromium(0) (8). The bulky silanes (5, R3 = t-BuMe2, i-Pr3) were stable to these conditions.
