The direct diphenylmethylsilylation of the lithium enolate of ethyl cyclopropane carboxylate provides the C-silylated ester in excellent yield. The α-silyl ester can be converted to the corresponding C-silylated cyclopropyl ketones, β-silyl cyclopropyl-carbinols and to alkylidene cyclopropanes.
