    Introduction:

Declining number of attendance in lectures and the increasing use of digital media in self-study demanded a redesign of teaching adapted to the learning behavior of human medicine students. An innovative concept is the so-called "Flipped Classroom". The abstract knowledge is gained digitally out of class and this knowledge is applied and expanded in practical lessons.

    Methods:

First, the original lecture of the ENT was analyzed and the main learning objectives were identified, evaluated and revised strictly according to the SMART criteria. According to the Constructive Alignment, attention was paid to the congruence of learning objectives, teaching and test format and adapted to the digital teaching, if necessary. Thus, a flipped classroom concept was developed, which should consider cognitive, psychomotor and affective learning goals.

    Results:

The digital teaching concept includes seven podcasts concerning the topics ear, audiological diagnostics, vertigo, nose & sinuses, mouth & pharynx, larynx, neck & salivary glands. After completing a digital learning assessment, students will be admitted to a 4-unit internship that will repeat and train their psychomotor skills. In addition to a semester final exam to review the cognitive learning objectives, an evaluation of psychomotor abilities based on the "Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs)” will be performed at several stations.

    Conclusions:

The Flipped Classroom is a promising concept for the digitization of teaching in ENT. First of all, it requires extensive, time-consuming and cost-intensive reshaping, but it can make teaching much more efficient, interesting and adaptable to students' learning behavior.
