Teratomas are rare manifestations of cervical lesions. A teratoma is defined as a tumor originated from pluripotent stem cells and can have the properties of all of the three primary germ layers. Benign teratomas are also described as mature teratomas and malign teratomas are described as immature teratomas or teratocarcinomas. Commonly teratomas are found in the reproductive gland, but they can theoretically be located everywhere in the human body. We present the case of an 8-year-old female patient with an incidental finding of a tumor of unknown origin in the oral cavity, right sided under the tongue. Considering a benign tumor we indicated a complete removal of the mentioned lesion. After the successful procedure in general anaesthesia, the histologic examination revealed an in sano removed mature cystic teratoma. In summary, the dignity of a lesion of unkown origin in the oral cavity should be clarified. Beside pathologies like a ranula or a sialadenosis through mumps for example have to be taken into consideration and should ruled out.
