TESTING THE FEASIBILITY OF NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING WITH A STRUCTURED DIET PLAN ON THE DAYS OF CHEMOTHERAPY
Introduction Clinical studies state that a fasting-mimicking diet during chemotherapy (CTx) has a positive effect on the efficacy/tolerability of drug-based tumor therapeutics [1] [2] [3]. In contrast, effects of diets/structured nutrition plans during CTx/radiotherapy have hardly been studied so far (only with a high proportion of women, low case numbers, in outpatient clinics). In the outpatient, oncology setting, data on the feasibility of diet therapy with a structured nutrition plan during CTx are moderately recorded.
Objectives Testing the feasibility of a structured nutrition plan on chemotherapy days in outpatient oncology care.
Methods 60 patients (pat.) are eligible to participate in the monocentric, non-randomized, prospective feasibility study of Oncology UnterEms: Mamma CA adj (Maa)/1st-line (Mae), Colon CA adj (Koa)/1st-line (Koe), Lung CA 1st-line (Lue).
Before the first fasting period (36h before CTx, on the day of CTx and 24h after CTx): nutritional counseling/BIA measurement/blood sampling. There will be 6 fasting periods over 3 months (every 2 weeks).
Parameters recorded: Laboratory parameters, weight/fat/muscle mass, EQ-5D-5L, PRO-CTCAETM, diagnosis, Charlson Comorbidity Index [4], CTx, sociodemographic characteristics, reasons for non-participation/dropout. Nutritional therapy will be monitored for effectiveness and quality.
Results Since 10/19, 22 pat. were enrolled in the study.
Conclusion The study remains open for patient enrollment.
