Significance

Eudistomin E, extracted from a Caribbean tunicate Eudistoma olivaceum, showed some potent antimicrobial, antiviral and antitumor activities. The authors highlight a short route to the key indole moiety D starting from the nitroarene A derived from the commercially available phenol, as well as a stereoselective Pictet-Spengler reaction (F + GH).
