Single incision transumbilical cholecystectomy (SILS). Serie of nonselected 30 cases

Aim: To compare single incision and conventional (three port) laparoscopic cholecystectomy

Method: Data of transumbilical single port laparoscopic cholecystectomy (SILS) and that of 3 port conventional laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) performed by the same surgeon between 2008–2010 were compared. Results: SILS cases represent nonselected series. Transabdominal sutures were not applied. In two cases one additional 5mm port was inserted. Except two cases only stright instruments were used.Mean age was lower int the SILS group, male/female ratio, BMI was similar.No conversion occured in SILS group, but one in the LC. One patient int he SILS group underwent transumbilical laparoscopic reoperation and lavage because of nonsurgical cause of intrabdominal haematoma.Mean operative time and postoperative hospitalisation was 75.9±25min 0.2 days in the SILS group, 55.7±17min, 2.8 days int he LC group. Conclusions: Transumbilical single port cholecystectomy can be performed safely by using conventional straight instuments. No publication about nonselected SILS cholecystectomy series was found in the english literature.
