Summary
Phytotherapeutic options for hyperlipidemia
The article gives an overview of common pharmacological effects of herbal remedies for treating hyperlipidemia as well as the current state of clinical trials. Fibercontaining remedies, particularly psyllium, are identified to be suitable at least for adjuvant therapy. Studies on garlic show inconsistent results, and studies on artichoke leaves are still rare. The herbal remedies identified so far as promising in treating hyperlipidemia are well tolerated, therefore further studies should be conducted.
