Significance
A new type of ligand for the rhodium-catalyzed hydrogenation is described. These ligands are air- and moisture-stable, and give high enantioselectivities. The ligand precursor is easily synthesized in two steps and 21% overall yield. This ligand worked very well for the hydrogenation of α-dehydroamino acid esters, enamides, and dimethyl itaconate.
