Abstract

Surgical treatment of the postinflammatory acquired atresia of the external auditory canal is challenging, as postoperative re-development of fibrous canal obliteration is often observed. This complication mostly arises from the acute anterior tympanomeatal angle, which is why this region has to be accounted crucial in the operative and postoperative phase. On the basis of our own long-time experience in reducing the risk of postoperative re-fibrosis of the external auditory canal, we report the essential steps of our modified surgical technique and also focus on the equally important postoperative treatment procedures.
