The Guest Editors of this issue (in two parts) of Seminars in Neurology are Drs. Justin McArthur and Nicoline Schiess from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Justin McArthur is the John W. Griffin Endowed Chair of Neurology at Johns Hopkins University. He received his medical degree from Guys Hospital Medical School at the University of London. He then completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. McArthur stayed at Johns Hopkins to complete a second residency in neurology and to obtain a master's degree in public health. Now a Professor of Neurology, Pathology, Medicine and Epidemiology, Dr. McArthur has become nationally and internationally recognized for his work in the epidemiology and treatment of HIV infection, multiple sclerosis, and other neurologic infections and immunomediated neurologic disorders. He has been instrumental in the design and conduct of numerous clinical trials for these disorders. Dr. McArthur is currently the Director of the Department of Neurology at Johns Hopkins, and is also the Director of the Johns Hopkins/National Institute of Mental Health Research Center for Novel Therapeutics of HIV-Associated Cognitive Disorders. Dr. McArthur is arguably one of the world's most famous and gifted neurologists, and leads a preeminent neurology service at a most renowned institution. He is certainly someone whom I look up to greatly, and I was overjoyed when he agreed to guest edit this issue of Seminars.

Dr. Schiess is Assistant Professor of Neurology at Johns Hopkins University. She is the Director of the Nervous System and Special Senses Section of the Genes to Society Course for Johns Hopkins first-year medical students. She was also the Director for the Nervous System/Special Senses and Mind, Brain, Behavior courses at Perdana University Graduate School of Medicine in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Dr. Schiess received her undergraduate degree from the University of California San Diego and her medical degree from Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary. She got her MPH degree from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, Maryland. She completed an internship at New York Medical College (Valhalla, NY) and a residency at New York University Hospital in New York City. She then received a grant from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to complete a fellowship in neuroimmunology and neurologic infections at Johns Hopkins and subsequently stayed on as faculty. In 2010, Dr. Schiess received a Fulbright Scholar Award to teach neuroscience and start a subspecialty Multiple Sclerosis Clinic at Tawam Hospital, a Johns Hopkins-operated hospital in the United Arab Emirates. She currently divides her time between the UAE and Baltimore.

“Pearls and Pitfalls” is perhaps the most important issue that we produce at Seminars, and I could not be more pleased with the collection of manuscripts here by true experts in the field, which will provide the reader with great insights into the current management of neurologic illness and its future direction. We greatly appreciate the efforts of Drs. McArthur and Schiess, as well as all of the contributing authors for their great work in this issue of Seminars. This one is a “keeper” for many years to come!
