Introduction

Gastrointestinal bleeding remains an important clinical challenge. Despite the progress in management of this potentially life-threatening condition, with advances mainly related to effective endoscopic hemostasis and adjuvant pharmacologic treatment, the reported mortality is still around 5 % – 10 % for ulcer bleeding and about 15 % – 20 % for variceal hemorrhage. The continuing large number of abstracts devoted to this subject reflects the persistent interest in this issue. This necessarily subjective selection has included the most noteworthy data, but many abstracts listed only in the second part of the reference list are very interesting.
