Some 2-substituted methyl 1,3-oxazole-4-carboxylates (5) can be obtained by the one-step cyclization of N-acylserines (3) by the combined use of diphenyl sulfoxide and trifluoroacetic anhydride, and subsequent nickel peroxide oxidation of the oxazoline.
