Abstract

The absorption and distribution of 14C-vasicine was studied in mice. Intravenous, intramuscular and subcutaneous modes of administration were employed. Irrespective of the mode of administration the absorption and distribution pattern was the same. Absorption was fast and the drug was distributed into all tissues. Within 10 minutes the maximum concentration of drug was monitored in the uterus and was maintained upto 30 minutes. This is in conformity with the pharmacological action of vasicine in its onset, duration and manifestation of selective tonic action on the uterus. Accumulation of the drug in other smooth and skeletal muscles was noticed 90 min after administration. There was no appreciable accumulation of drug in the liver. It is noteworthy that vasicine is very selective in its action and accumulation in the uterus.
