Abstract
The rehabilitation of a young football player with a pedicle fracture of the 5th lumbar vertebral body was evaluated using a function-based return to activity algorithm. The training schedule was adapted weekly in order to prepare for the following rehabilitation steps. 18 weeks after the trauma the patient was able to start a soccer specific training and gradually join in the team training. After 21 weeks he performed his first regular game and afterwards remained without injury.
