Abstract
Acne typically is associated with adolescence and young adulthood. However, there are other special forms that occur especially in infancy and childhood. These include acne neonatorum, acne juvenilis as well as midchildhood acne. The disease is modulated by endogenous (genetic disposition, androgens, growth hormones) and exogenous (propionibacterium acnes, dietary habits, mechanical irritation) factors. Main pathogenetic factors are increased sebum production, follicular differentiation disorders and perifollicular inflammatory processes. A broad range of acne treatments are available and have been shown to be safe and effective. Depending on the age of the person affected, different treatment methods and procedures are recommended.
