Abstract

Two complex ellagitannins were isolated in low yield from extracts of whole plants of Tellima grandiflora (Saxifragaceae) and subjected to hydrolytic, NMR and molecular weight studies. Hydrolysis yielded glucose, gallic acid, ellagic acid, and two unidentified fragments. The NMR data exclude all known ellagitannin structures.
