Abstract
The lecture reports on two new alkaloids from Erythrophleum ivorense, namely: 3(3–methylcrotonyl)cassaine (VI) and a 19–hydroxy substituted alkaloid with a tentative structure (VII). The isolation of cassamide, erythrophlamide, cassaide [12] and 3β–acetoxy–7β–hydroxy–N–(β–hydroxyethyl)–N–methyl–E–13(15)–cassen–16–amide (XII) from E. guineense is also reported. The isomerism of the amide linkage in the latter compounds as well as some notes on the structure–activity relationship of erythrophleum alkaloids are discussed. Finally an investigation of E. africanum and some aspects of undiscovered erythrophleum alkaloids are mentioned.
