Die Echoskopie ermöglicht die orientierende Darstellung abdomineller Organe, des Herzens und des Mediastinums.

Die Echoskopie ermöglicht eine ausreichend gute Darstellung der Anatomie, insofern es sich nicht um oberflächlich gelegene Strukturen handelt, die einer höherfrequenten Untersuchungstechnik bedürfen.

Die Echoskopie ermöglicht keine Diagnostik kleiner umschriebener Organveränderungen und keine Ausschlussdiagnostik.

Die Echoskopie ermöglicht aufgrund der kleinen Auflagefläche des Transducers manchmal einen besseren Zugangsweg als größere auch konvex angeordnete Ultraschallköpfe.
