Direct Aromatic Carboxymethylation
Further Information
Publication History
Publication Date:
27 September 2002 (online)
A number of methods have been developed for the direct substitution of aromatic rings by the carboxymethyl group to form arylacetic acids. These procedures appear to depend upon the intermediate formation of the carboxymethyl radical, ·CH2-COOH, or related free radicals, which attack the aromatic ring of suitable substrates. The scope of direct aromatic carboxymethylation, as it is presently known, is considered in this review.
