A new and expeditious synthesis of 7-alkylthio-2,2-dimethyl-2H-chromenes in good overall yield (59-72%), utilising the Newman-Kwart rearrangement of 7-(N,N-dimethylthiocarbamoyloxy)-2,2-dimethyl-4-chromanones as the key step, is described
