Abstract

Alcohols were found to be oxidized to the corresponding carboxylic acid in the presence of catalytic N-bromosuccinimide in an oxygen atmosphere.

5

We believe the effective wavelength of the light for this reaction to be 365 nm.

6

Since purification of 2 was difficult due to the residue of the reaction mixture when using EtOAc as solvent, MeCN was exclusively used for subsequent studies.
