Abstract
The flavonoid aglycones survey of 13 taxa of thyme plants from the Iberian peninsula and the Balearic Islands reveals the importance of luteolin and 6-hydro-xyluteolin as taxonomic markers- in Thymus species from the western Mediterranean basin. Luteolin occurs as a constant in all the forms analysed. 6-Hydroxyluteolin, a flavone with a limited distribution among plants, not previously reported in the genus, is abundant in 11 species, while in two others it is present in traces.
