Summary

Temporary scalp trichopigmentation (STP) is an innovative technique of scalp camouflage that creates the illusion of shaved hair on the head with pigment. Like other scalp micropigmentation (SMP) techniques, it is useful for a variety of conditions involving hair loss. It is different from standard permanent SMP in that it is not designed to fade. STP is not a re-adaptation of previous SMP techniques, but a unique procedure developed specifically to address problems with earlier permanent techniques. In this chapter, we discuss in detail the equipment, pigments, techniques, and protocols used to perform temporary STP, which makes this procedure unique. Concerns for potential advantages and disadvantages will be examined. The indications for STP are similar to permanent SMP and are discussed in detail in Chapter 13A—Permanent Scalp Micropigmentation.
