Summary

This chapter reviews the most common procedures performed by clinicians treating hair loss. Procedural hair restoration includes the injection of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to improve the growth and health of the hair and hair transplantation. PRP is an autologous liquid derived from the patient’s blood during an office visit. PRP is rich with growth factors that are used to stimulate the growth and health of the scalp. The major forms of hair transplantation described in this chapter are follicular unit transfer (FUT, strip method) and follicular unit extraction (FUE, dot excision) methods. In each method of hair transplant, the single unit of hair growth, the follicle, is isolated and implanted to create a result that is natural and lasting. Overall, technological advancements are now fully available to clinicians and have opened a new and exciting chapter in hair restoration.
