Zur Verhinderung von Abhängigkeit und Pflegebedürftigkeit ist die Abklärung der kognitiven Leistungsfähigkeit von essenzieller Bedeutung. Im Rahmen einer geriatrischen Komplexbehandlung gehört der MMST (oder Mini Mental State Examination, MMSE) nach Folstein mittlerweile zu den Standardassessments. Der MMST ist das am häufigsten angewandte Screeningverfahren für kognitive Defizite.
