Pathologische Ereignisse während der embryofetalen Periode erhöhen die kardiometabolische Morbidität und Mortalität im späteren Leben. Die assistierte Reproduktion stellt ein neues wichtiges Beispiel dieses Problems dar. Schädliche externe Einflüsse während der In-vitro-Phase sowie eine erhöhte Prävalenz von Schwangerschaftskomplikationen, die das kardiometabolische Risiko im späteren Leben erhöhen, spielen eine pathogenetische Rolle.
