Die neurophysiologischen Untersuchungen auf Intensivstationen unterscheiden sich in der Durchführung nicht von denen im Elektrophysiologielabor. Bei der Durchführung und Interpretation gibt es durch das erhöhte Risiko von technischen Störungen einige Besonderheiten. Neurophysiologische Untersuchungen bei kritisch Kranken liefern auch bei klinisch nicht beurteilbaren Patienten (Koma) belastbare Befunde. Die Untersuchungen erfolgen am Patientenbett. Sie erheben quantitative Daten, die zur Verlaufsuntersuchung herangezogen werden können.
