Zu Naturheilverfahren im eigentlichen Sinn zählen Ernährung, Bewegung, Entspannung, die Nutzung von Wasser, Licht, Kälte und Wärme, sowie pflanzliche Mittel. Die klassische Naturheilkunde beinhaltet damit die Phytotherapie, die Hydrotherapie, die Bewegungstherapie, die Ernährungstherapie und die Ordnungstherapie. Mit diesen Naturheilverfahren lassen sich Krankheiten verhindern, heilen oder lindern. Sie können auch zur Unterstützung verschiedener Formen schulmedizinischer Therapien gegeben werden. Allerdings lässt die Datenlage in diesem Bereich aufgrund des Mangels an klinischen Studien mit Naturheilverfahren noch zu wünschen übrig und es gibt verhältnismäßig wenige evidenzbasierte Daten. Bei manchen Krankheitsbildern, wie z. B. Dysmenorrhoe, Uterus myomatosus, Menopausenbeschwerden, Endometriose und Inkontinenz können Naturheilverfahren für niedergelassene Gynäkologen sehr interessant sein.
