Die Pyometra hat einen hohen Stellenwert in der täglichen klinischen Praxis mit einer Inzidenz von 15% [1] bis 25% [2] bei der Hündin und ca. 2% bei der Kätzin [3]. Sie stellt damit die häufigste Uteruserkrankung beim Kleintier und als potenziell lebensbedrohliche Erkrankung einen Notfall dar [4].
