Francisco Javier García-Alonso et al. The role of endoscopic ultrasound guidance for biliary and pancreatic duct access and drainage to overcome the limitations of ERCP: a retrospective evaluation

In 170 endoscopic ultrasound-guided duct access and drainage (EUS-DAD) procedures performed after failed ERCP, EUS-DAD was found to be highly successful, with secondary percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD) needed in only three patients. This retrospective single-center series shows that EUS-DAD effectively overcomes the limitations of ERCP, eliminating the use of primary and salvage PTBD in most cases.
