Orofaziale Schmerzen: Definition, Klassifikation und Prävalenz

Was sind orofaziale Schmerzen, und wie unterscheiden sie sich von Kopfschmerzen? Eine Definition ist schwierig, die Differenzierung kompliziert, die Diagnostik diffizil. Selbst hochkomplexe Klassifikationssysteme wie die jüngst publizierte ‚International Classification of Orofacial Pain‘ sind für Kliniker eher impraktikabel. Erst der Blick auf ausgewählte Studien gibt Klarheit: Zahn- und Mundschmerzen sind die häufigste Form orofazialer Schmerzen. Als weitere Schmerzgeneratoren gelten die Kaumuskulatur sowie die Kiefergelenke – anatomische Strukturen mit besonderer Relevanz für die Physiotherapie.
