Diogo Libânio et al. Gastric cancer incidence and mortality trends 2007–2016 in three European countries

In this European retrospective cohort study investigating 41 138 patients with gastric cancer over a 10-year period, incidence and mortality of gastric cancer was found to decrease over time. Early gastric cancer diagnoses however increased in all countries, resulting in significantly improved survival. The latter findings can be attributed, at least partly, to increased awareness of gastric cancer, easy access to upper endoscopy, and the introduction of high definition endoscopes with virtual chromoendoscopy.
