Abstract
The spleen certainly is one of the smaller and more underestimated organs, and though of course acknowledged by radiologists, the organ’s rare pathologies, given they are discovered, can be
challenging to characterize. Some of the common incidental findings include splenomegaly and accessory spleens. Purely cystic lesions like splenic cysts or other changes with typical
appearance like most hemangiomas aren’t usually problematic in their differential diagnosis. More complex structures with calcifications or cystic and solid, enhancing segments may
complicate a radiological differentiation. Although in most cases splenic lesions are benign, they need to be correlated correctly in the patient’s own clinical context, especially if a
malignancy or systemic disease is known. Because of their rarity and unspecific behavior the radiological findings are in many cases insufficient for a definitive diagnosis of an unclear
splenic entity and a histopathological examination is necessary.
