Joel Troya et al. The influence of computer-aided polyp detection systems on reaction time for polyp detection and eye gaze

Several computer-aided detection (CADe) systems are now used clinically for polyp detection. This study examined reaction time and eye gaze patterns in an experimental setting using short colonoscopy video clips. CADe reaction time was faster than that of human examiners; however, the use of CADe support did not improve human reaction times significantly. Furthermore, CADe increased misinterpretation rates with normal mucosa and reduced eye travel distance, possibly leading to prolonged examination time and deskilling.
