Der klinische Fall: Differenzialdiagnosen von Angesichtsschwellungen beim Pferd

Der klinische Fall

Ein 19-jähriger brauner Warmblutwallach wurde wegen beidseitiger Schwellung der Fossa temporalis und beidseitiger diffuser Schwellung im Bereich des M. masseter vorgestellt. Aufgrund des Flüssigkeitsspiegels im hinteren Sinussystem und der nur geringgradigen dentogenen Auffälligkeiten in der Bildgebung wurde zunächst die Verdachtsdiagnose primäre Sinusitis gestellt. Es wurde eine antibiotische Therapie eingeleitet, doch das Allgemeinbefinden des Pferdes verschlechterte sich, es wurde eine zunehmende Lymphozytose nachgewiesen und die Masseter-Schwellung nahm zu. Der Patient wurde euthanasiert und der Verdacht eines malignen Lymphoms mit sekundärer Leukämie bestätigte sich in der pathohistologischen Untersuchung.
