Interleukin-23 (IL-23) ist an Entzündungsreaktionen des Darms beteiligt, indem es möglicherweise die Entzündungsantwort aufrechterhält. Der monoklonale Antikörper Guselkumab blockiert selektiv die p19-Untereinheit von IL-23, auf diese Weise wird die intrazelluläre Signalweiterleitung und in der Folge die Zytokinproduktion inhibiert. Inwieweit Patienten mit Morbus Crohn von Guselkumab profitieren, haben W. J. Sandborn et al. nun untersucht.
