Simon Ladefoged Rasmussen et al. The effect of antithrombotic treatment on the fecal immunochemical test for colorectal cancer screening: a nationwide cross-sectional study

A total of 9052 participants with a positive FIT while receiving antithrombotic treatment were compared, in this cross-sectional study, with 28 387 FIT-positive individuals without antithrombotic treatment. Antithrombotic treatment, especially nonvitamin K oral anticoagulants, was associated with a decreased positive predictive value in FIT-based CRC screening. This information may help to inform patients about the changed risk–benefit ratio if they are taking antithrombotic agents, but should not lead to discontinuation of antithrombotic agents prior to FIT screening.
