Willingness to Pay for Insecticide-Treated Bed Nets in Sub-Saharan Africa: a systematic literature reviewZusammenfassung
Abstract
Aim To examine the willingness to pay for insecticide-treated bed nets for malaria phrophylaxis and to identify potential interventions to stimulate demand.
Method A systematic literature review was conducted that covered the time period of 2012–2022 and focused geographically on Sub Saharan Africa.
Results The willingness to pay for insecticide-treated bed nets is significantly below the market price for low-income households. The perceived benefits of those nets and the general knowledge about Malaria and its prevention measures significantly influence the willingness to pay.
Conclusions In the short term, free distribution of insecticide-treated bed nets for low-income households is necessary. In the long term, the focus should be on educational measures.
