Joanna Luttikhold et al. Endoscopic vacuum therapy for esophageal perforation: a multicenter retrospective cohort study

The efficacy and safety of endoscopic vacuum therapy in 27 patients with esophageal perforations (mostly iatrogenic and Boerhaave syndrome) were investigated. Defect closure was achieved in 89 % after a median treatment duration of 12 days and 1 sponge exchange. There were 2 adverse events: 1 iatrogenic defect expansion during sponge exchange and 1 hemorrhage during sponge removal.
