Joël Lacroute et al. The carbon footprint of ambulatory gastrointestinal endoscopy
Data on the environmental impact of endoscopic procedures are lacking. This is the first study to report on the total carbon footprint of an endoscopic procedure. Using a retrospective design and annual data from an ambulatory center, the authors report a carbon footprint of 28.4 kgCO₂e per endoscopy. Interestingly, travel of staff and patients contributed 45 % to the total emissions. The study also points to current challenges with this type of investigation and the lack of standardized reporting in this growing field of environmental impact analyses in endoscopy.Qualität:
