Dass Adipositas in westlichen Ländern, einschließlich Deutschland, aber auch insbesondere in Schwellenländern zunimmt, ist kein großes Geheimnis. Adipöse Menschen haben ein höheres Risiko, einen Typ-2-Diabetes zu entwickeln, und diese Erkrankung ist in Deutschland die Hauptursache für eine chronische Niereninsuffizienz und Dialysepflichtigkeit [1].
