Bone Finds in Berlin and the connection to World War II
Zusammenfassung
Die Beurteilung von Knochenfunden gehört zu den üblichen Aufgaben der Rechtsmedizin und bietet Überschneidungen zu anderen Fachdisziplinen wie Archäologie, Geschichte und Anthropologie. Je nach Lage eines Instituts unterscheidet sich das zu untersuchende Fallgut erheblich und erlaubt mitunter spannende Einblicke in die Vergangenheit und die lokale Geschichte. In Berlin werden weiterhin regelmäßig Knochenfunde aus dem Kontext des Zweiten Weltkriegs geborgen. Wir wollen hierzu einen Überblick über die Gründe, die Fallzahlen sowie die Bearbeitung geben und den prominenten Fall des Martin Bormann im Detail darstellen.
Abstract
The assessment of bone finds is one of the usual tasks of forensic medicine and overlaps with other disciplines such as archaeology, history and anthropology. Depending on the location of an institute, the case material to be examined differs considerably and sometimes allows exciting insights into the past and local history. In Berlin, bone finds from the context of the Second World War continue to be recovered on a regular basis. We would like to provide an overview of the reasons for this, the number of cases and the processing and present the prominent case of Martin Bormann in detail.
