Experimental and Clinical Endocrinology & Diabetes (ECED) has been at the forefront of innovation, research and development ever since its inception back in 1928. To mark and honor the many outstanding and groundbreaking contributions and their authors in those more than 90 years of endocrinology and diabetes research the journal has recorded – Thieme, the publisher of ECED, has decided to award a bi-annual prize to the most innovative paper of the previous two years, alternating between endocrinology and diabetes. In 2023, the Editorial Board of ECED has decided to award the publication “Clinical Characteristics of Primary Hypophysitis – A Single-Centre Series of 60 Cases.” by Amereller F, Küppers AM, Schilbach K, Schopohl J, Störmann S (Exp Clin Endocrinol Diabetes 2021; 129: 234–240), as the most deserving endocrinology paper published in ECED over the previous two years. This study included a large number of patients with primary hypophysitis and gave important insight in diagnosis and treatment of primary hypophysitis based on clinical criteria. The award was handed over during the awards ceremony of the annual Autumn Meeting of the Pituitary Working Group and 27th Annual Meeting of the Neuroendocrinology Section (Joint Meeting) in Berlin, Germany. Dr. Sylvère Störmann, senior author of the award-winning article, is a board-certified endocrinologist and diabetologist at the Medizinische Klinik und Poliklinik IV at LMU Klinikum in Munich, Germany. His clinical research focuses on pituitary disorders, particularly acromegaly and hypophysitis. In 2013, he conceived the initial framework for the awarded research project, which he has supervised and developed over the years. He remains dedicated to fostering innovative research that bridges clinical practice with scientific discovery.
